Todays guest Baseball Coach/Author Paul Babcock, a top Illinois High School baseball coach who played and coached with the Legendary Coach Gordie Gillespie who coached 58 years at Lewis university, College St. Francis and Ripon College. His incredible 1893 wins were at the top of all College Baseball for many years. He did all this as well as coaching basketball, football, a true legend. Paul’s new book called the Team is a book about having coached and played for the Legendary Gordie Gillespie is hot off the press. This book highlights Gordie’s secrets of what made him an incredible Coach, Leader, Teacher and Human Being. It’s is available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Google Play and Itunes.

Paul was a Senior captain of the 1993 College Saint Francis Championship team. He has been coaching baseball since 1994 as a Graduate assistant under Gordie and the last 2 years with his former teammate Dave DeHaan at Andrew High School. He was a Head coach for 15 years at Lincoln-Way East were he had 7 regional titles, 1 sectional title and a 2008 summer state championship. Paul has 2 former players that made it to the big leagues, Dean Anna & Dietrich Enns And get this, Paul Completed an Ironman Triathlon.

Might be obvious to some, but why did you name the book “ The Team” ?

This is a book that everyone can learn about how to be true leader, baseball coach, business person, educators?

What kind of culture did he create at each program?.

If you had to pick one thing that made Gordie a great coach, what would it be?

How did he deal with his best player and worst player?

What were the bus rides like after a loss?

How did he deal with adversity? Players being late, discipline issues?

He could of managed in the big leagues, could have been a Psychologist, am I far off?

What was the most impactful part of the book?

Was attention to detail part of his culture?

What kind of practices did he have indoor?

How did he handle losses?

How did he deal with umpires?

How did he get his players to deal with pressure?
