Coach Gord joins the Seminole coaching staff for his second season. In 2007 he guided the 16U Seminoles to a 20-16 record which included wins against some of the top programs in the nation. Nelson Gord played four seasons of professional baseball. From 2004-2006 he played for the Schaumburg Flyers in the Northern League. His best season with the Flyers came in 2006 when he was voted to the Northern League All-Star Team after stealing a career high 27 bases and playing in a total of 93 games. Following the 2006 season he signed a free agent contract with the Houston Astros and went to spring training with the club this year. He set a career high in doubles, homeruns, and RBI’s in 07 while playing for the Kansas City T-Bones. Gord enjoyed the best stretch of his career when he homered in three straight games from June 16-19. Nelson has also been the lead hitting instructor at Play Ball USA in Des Plaines, IL for the past 5 years and recently purchased the facility from previous ownership. He also spent one season (2005) as hitting coach for Harper College, and currently works with the hitters at Oakton Community College. He is considered by many to be the best hitting instructor in Illinois. Prior to his professional playing and coaching experience, Gord attended the University of Illinois where he was a four year letter winner and a two time All-Horizon League third Baseman.
