On this episode of Baseball Outside the Box, we hear about Coach Caliendo’s week in the country of Peru hosting a coaches certification program. Coach Caliendo travels the world training coaches and he loves to bring back to his listeners some new learning techniques, drills and team skills. He begins by discussing the unique certification program which can help many with their own internal coaches development program. Caliendo discusses how they do a pre-test to gain what the knowledge of the coaches may be so that the program is tailored to what they need to learn. They review the final test and discuss the questions and answers. Then they begin the program by classroom discussions on coaching philosophies, hitting/pitching biomechanics and practice organization. He also discusses how they evaluate the coaches on the field on their teaching skills and finally a unique way to apply the test at the end of the course. He had the honor of working along famous Cuba player and current Peru Baseball Federation National Team coach Ricardo Miranda. He interviews Coach Miranda about Cuban coaching philosophies, ways they teach their hitters, their aggressively smart base running and what they are doing to improve the Peru Baseball program.
